The Final Whistle - Matchday 17 - Football Podcast Solomon & Osric

Episode Highlights

Welcome to The Final Whistle, hosted by father and son duo, Osric & Solomon.

We discuss all things football-related and preview the English Premier League with a match of the week to focus on.

Round 17 Preview

  • Ipswich Town vs. Newcastle United: Ipswich play good football and have a young and talented squad/manager but playing good football doesn’t guarantee points! They need to find the ability to win….and soon. Using home advantage is going to be key to their survival in the EPL so a visiting Newcastle team presents quite the challenge….can they rise to it?
  • Aston Villa vs. Manchester City: Playing Aston Villa at the best of times is quite the challenge but when they are at home and making a push for European places, well – good luck. City continue to defy all expectations with a late, inexplicable implosion against their arch enemy, Man United. Can they find some character and perform in the cauldron that is Villa Park!?
  • Brentford vs. Nottingham Forest: Brentford are miserable on the road but when it comes to their home form? Well it’s the best in the league. After being spanked by Arsenal and Man City, Forest do not appear to have an inferiority complex! They have responded with wins against Ipswich, Man U and Villa. Can they take that impressive effort on the road and do to Brentford what no-one has been able to do thus far?
  • West Ham United vs. Brighton & Hove Albion: West Ham have had their wobble it seems and are rediscovering their mojo. Though they are yet to record back to back premier league wins, they picked up 3 points against a struggling Wolves and secured a confidence boosting point away to Bournemouth. Brighton arfe next up, can the Hammers continue to fortify themselves by getting something from this tricky game?
  • Crystal Palace vs. Arsenal: Crystal Palace can be difficult to play and the Selhurst Park atmosphere can be intimidating, but Palace have just come off the back of a demoralising Gabriel Jesus inspired defeat in the Carabao Cup quarter final to Arsenal. So there’s a chance for redemption, or perhaps, as is more likely – more of the same?
  • Everton vs. Chelsea: Everton are quietly becoming the party poopers of the league. Having recently stifled a free scoring  Arsenal to a 0-0 draw, can the leagues top scorers put Everton back in their place at their place? If Chelsea can do what Newcastle, West Ham, Brentford and Arsenal have failed to do (score), perhaps they’ll be in a title race after all?
  • Fulham vs. Southampton: Fulham are normally well organised and put on a good performance at home so they may well relish the visit of bottom of the table team Southampton, who have been so poor, they recently parted ways with the manager. Perhaps Southampton will change their style of play and use the managers bounce’ to put up a bit of a fight to ward off what seems an inevitable return to the Championship.
  • Leicester City vs. Wolverhampton Wanderers: Both teams are struggling with the pace of the Premier league and have had a dose of confidence bashing defeats to keep them anchored to 17th and 18th respectively in the table. Wolves sacked their manager as a result so can they show some character and get their league campaign underway or will the Foxes have other ideas?
  • Manchester United vs. AFC Bournemouth: Manchester United continue to stumble around the premiership like a team struggling to find their identity. Their new manager hasn’t quite found a way to get a (consistently good) tune out of this team of well paid elite ballers so who knows what to expect against a well drilled, confident and young Bournemouth team?
  • Tottenham Hotspur vs. Liverpool: This could be an absolute drubbing by Liverpool or Spurs could spank Liverpool by several goals to nil! It all depends on what version of Spurs show up? They smashed Man City 4-0 and are one of the highest scorers in the league so nothing can be taken for granted. In Liverpool (who rested several players mid week) we know what to expect. A high press, focused team who have shown that they can beat any team on the planet but a 9 point lead has been reduced to 2 points in quick time after two successive draws. Are they about to have a wobble??
